LOG CABIN QUILTS

<

I have come across this great little book which has all the Abc's in Log Cabin Quilts. I know Log Cabin has been around for a long time, but lots of great quilts in this book - even the curved log cabin effect. Also a ruler which is specifically designed for "easy" cutting of strips to correct length.

JAPANESE PATCHWORK SHOPPING

I have a new interest in Japanese Patchwork and material. We had a local craft fair on the weekend, and I was in my element to purchase some of the great materials the out of town stall had. I also managed a Sashiko workshop.

I purchased the materials from Jane @ Be Bold

Tips I learnt about Sashiko
* pronounced Sashko
* strong and long needle required and is quite thick
* traditional work done with Japanese cotton, however, some use pearl cotton
* start project with a knot and finish with a knot
* sewing is best done in one continuous line - ie sew lines from one side to the other and then if they go diagonally, try and do the whole diagonal line in one continuous line . If you need to jump under a pattern which is on top, then leave a bit of slack in the cotton at the back. The main thing though is to try and sew in as many straight lines as possible. With something like the dragonfly shape in the middle, sew some of the straight line, then around best as possible in the one direction to complete the dragonfly.
* when you go around corners leave a loop at the back of the material - also leave
a little bit of slack at the beginning and at the end.
* when finishing off, take needle off cotton - leave a little bit say 1/4" as slack and tie knot, then cut.
* try and keep the stitches even and the ones on top should be longer than the ones underneath.
* if you have light material, you may have to have double thickness. Dark material is fine single thickness.

CHECK YOUR BLOG ADDRESS ON THE ANGEL LINK!!!!

Gee, I am slow off the mark. I didnt think to check my actual "blog link" address by clicking on it from Helen's Angel Blog until just now, and guess what... I have obviously given Helen the wrong address initially, as it defaulted to something way different. Of course Helen was pronto to fix this for me, and I am now back up and running, so hopefully I will hear from some more angels soon.

I am sure that all you Angels are switched on, and have already checked your link address, but if it slipped your mind like me, (plus the fact that I was new to blogging, and it was all just toooooooo new), then just double check it in case someone wants to contact you.

I have finished the first of the Angel projects for my swap partner. She likes "early century" matierials, however, these are hard to find around here, so I have opted for the Paisley's, and as green is my current favourite colour I also opted for that. Hope she likes it.

ANGEL SWAP CLUE & 1ST S U R P R I S E GIFT

I was soooooo excited to return home from work today (especially when it was my first day at a new job after having been at the old one for 6.5 years - still in the travel industry however), and guess what I received in the mail.......................which put an instant smile on my face. A small package with a 1st Surprise from Angel, and a "Clue" from my Angel - some gorgeous Danish cottons - which I might add had two hues of my favour colour. Thank you sooooo much Angel - you have made my day, and given me even more inspiration. This Angel Swap is just soooooooooooooooo cool. To receive something handmade from someone that you do not know - how special and how wonderful. Now - I wonder who you are???????
