Hubby came home with a new sewing machine this week.

Not sure how much sewing I will get done this week now!!!!!
Just when I wanted to get into some "free motion" quilting - what do you think my chances of success will be on this little number.

I have now finished my "In My Garden" by Anni Downs.

It has gone via the post today to get quilted, so my part is done.

Cant wait to get it back to do the best part - sewing on the binding.

Now I can get on with some unfinished stitching!!!!

The Other "Secret Santa" swap I participated in was our "Online" stitching group, where we make for one of our members and someone makes for us.

I was the lucky recipient of Helen. It was an advent swap of 5 days leading up to Christmas, then the main present:

Another years has passed

wow where on earth has 2011 disappeared to!!!!

I would like to take the opportunity to wish each and everyone of you a very enjoyable Christmas whether it be with your families and friends or even just in blogland where there has been so much christmas swapping and christmas wishes being spread .

Thank you all for sharing your new projects, techniques, ideas and friendship in blogland.

What a great world it is to be part of with so many likeminded addicted stitchers out there.

It still continues to blow me away with how disciplined everyone is when it comes to deadines with swaps etc and how amazing it is to receive from one you dont even know. What a great world we live in and isnt it a great world of technology we live in to be able to share our joy of sewing.

It is always nice to see life overseas, but even nicer to return home.

We saw lots of lovely sights, and here are a few of them:

HONG KONG:

Still offering some slow paced transport, however, their Train/bus/ferry and train system is amazingly organised, quick and efficient and cheap.

The escalators here are amazing and go up two levels at a time - hubby thought that was great as it meant one floor he didnt have to look at!!!!

I have just returned from a great trip to Hong Kong and Singapore, so was away for my birthday.
so I am little late in doing a post.

As I left BEFORE my birthday, I wasnt allowed to "offically" open my birthday present from one of our online Stitching group and am doing a post now that I am back home again.

I was delighted with these gorgeouse goodies that Jo has sent me on behalf of all the girls.
And it is make with another of my favourite designers fabric - Lynette andersons fabrics.
I was delighted to open the package. Thank you Jo and all the the lovely ladies in the group.

It still never ceases to amaze me how you can not know people only by blogging, share the same interests, then actually receive a present from them.

'ROUND THE CLOCK" ------- I S B A C K !!!!!!! YIPPEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Last year in October - I participated n "Helen Stubbings" Round the Clock stitchery.

The idea was that you start off your own square which Helen provided the pattern for, then send to the next person in your team of 4 people - along with any info you wanted to give them -ie colours you used etc etc.
Helen would then supply patterns row 2, 3, then four fortnightly and after the last one it would be sent back to the person who started it.

Well - this was very enjoyable as it is always nice to stitch for someone else.and of course fun stitching for someone else.Ufortunately mine got lost in the mail, however, Australia posts hae done an amazing job and were able to be track it down - even though it was a long few months until they tracked it, I was delighted to receive it in the mail today - am over the moon in fact - it is just gorgeous.!!!

The "Team" have done an amazing job and I am still ooh ahing.

Now the big questions

Dawn from Sweet as Cinamon is having a giveaway. Now this is very generous of her, but it is all about "How did you come up with your name for a blog" What a great idea. !!! I have often wondered about how people came up with some of their "quirky" "names of blogs".

Ok .. so here goes for me. I didnt even know about blogging until I tried tracking down a person via a Homespun Magazine and when I "googled" this it took me right to that person's blog. I then contacted her and we have been blogging since. Even though I still havent met her - that was 3 years ago, but hope to one day. So..... I thought I too must join in on this fabulous blogworld, so then had to think of a name - which was the obvious never being able to sit still unless I have need and cotton in hand - hence the name - "Itching for Stitching".

A Gift for an Online Stitching Buddy.

Involved in an "online" stitching in group, we each have to stitch for one sitcher for the year. This year I had "Kerri". We had to stitch something starting with the letter of of the suburb we live. My suburb starts with "C", so it really put the thinking cap on.

this is what I made for Kerri .

C...... Cube - I made one of these for me a few months back and use it daily, as it is great for storing all those little tools, pens, glue stitcks and things, so thought I would make one for Kerri - hopes she nows gives hers a work out.

I have been busy sewing and not much time for blogging, but am well overdue for pics and posts, so thought I best put up some pics so we dont think I have gone missing in the blogging world.

I have been doing annie Downs - In My Garden - BOM - Am so enjoying this "Applique quilt." as it is done in soft colours . Today, I have manged to put all the little bits together - that is the best bit - to form another completed block. 3 down - 6 to go.!!!

What a weekend - no sewing but lots of miles travellled .

The first of weddings of our daughter's "friends they grew up with" It was held on the lovely Central Coast and co-incendinentaly took place where I also spent my childhood days. It was so lovely to re-visit this beautiful and picturesque penninsular and all of the oh so familiar sights.

Why on earth would I have wanted to move away from this.

Anyway it was picture perfect for wedding and not a breath of wind.

I was really please to receive Anni's new book this week. I have seen a few pop

up around the blogs so was champing at the bit to receive my copy. I purchased my copy from Patchwork Plus - the link is on my sidebar.

And yes some great things in this book too.

Oh dear, where on earth are we going to extract more hours in the day to
stitch all the projects we just "need to do".

I am so enjoying this BOM and I hope I still feel this inspired by the time I get to the last month.

there was a lot of applique in the last block, but the best part was joining them together.

Just love all the different tones of white and cream and different fabric textures in this quilt.

What a great hubby I have - I have been complaining about my instant camera for a while now and after missing out on some good close up bear shots and squirrel shots when I was in Canada, I put out the hint that I would love a new camera at some stage. Actually I really wanted it so that I can take some better lit shots of my sewing for my blog!!!!

Anyway - hubby surprised me on our anniversary with a new Camera, so looking forward to reading the manual and uploading some pics soon

ANNIES - BOM - BLOCK 1

I have been champing at the bit busting to start "Annies" new "In My Garden"

Have been busy over the past week trying to catch up with this, as my holiday meant that I didnt start when the first one arrived, so am one behind already.

I have just returned from Canada - this time from the beautiful scenic West - it was so wonderful, so thought I would share just a few pics.

I was really disappointed that our plane was delayed 10 hours in Sydney on our first day, as this meant we missed our connection to Victoria. This then meant that , my "planned" meeting with "Paulette" a blogger whom I have blogged with over the past 3 years was not able to meet up with me due to me not knowing of the new arrival time as it looked like we going to have to overnight in Vancouver on the way.

Time already was short for "Victoria", and as she lived a long way from town - our meeting was off. The plan was to meet downtown in a little Cafe called "Murchies". I still went solo and enjoyed my own company. Paulette - this is living proof: You will know it is Murchies as I have never seen a sandwich so big - of course I couldnt eat it all, so next time you visit - ask for the other half - it's still there!!!

Next it was off to find some shops. I found a great little needlework and knitting shop, so I asked them if there were any Patchwork shops - they told me if I walked a further a 3 blocks I would find one.

I found this little beauty - Satin Moon Quilt Shop, so there I spent the next few hours in 7th heaven. Mmm already - I now had extra weight to carry home!! however just as well, as I didnt see another patchwork shop for the rest of the tour..

This is the Horse and Carriage Ride we did around beautiful Victoria.

And this is the lovely Fairmont hotel where we stayed.

Next stop was Whistler - just a beautiful place and there were plenty of people out there skiining.

How gorgeous was this - our welcome gift - complet with "bear" prints.

This was very exciting - I spotted a mummy bear and her two cubs whilst on the bus and called out -" Bear on the Left " Our driver back along the highway so we could all view and watch them.- Bears at this time of year are fresh out of hibernation - you can imagine the lean on the bus when we were hanging to one side to get a shot - this was the first bear sighitng for the season.

This is the view from the restaurant at the Fairmont in Lake Louise - just devine.

and the highlight of the trip for me was the "Dog Sledding"

in Banff - this was such an experience and so much fun.

Ready set go - was fabulous once on the sleigh - I had no idea we would be airborne for the bumps!!!

And the finale - ont he Rocky Mountaineer - Banff to Vancouver - just as good as all the pics we see on the tele.

way way in the distance we saw a "grizzly" - this also was exciting - there were 3 or us that spotted him and the train came to a halt for all to see - unfortunately I didnt have a good zoom on my camera by the time the train came to a a halt.

gorgeous scenery throughout the Rockies.

and these dome windows on the train were fabulous to appreciate every view.

oh ands sorry Chookyblue - I only got gone square sewn for the "Tis the Season".

I snuck this in when I had some quiet time in Jasper!!!!!!

I will have to try and catch up now - dont dare look at your blog to see that probably most are now finished!!!

Anyway it has a been a long time in between posts as I have had computer trouble.

I was delighted to receive my quilt back from the wonderful quilter - Belinda Betts. She has done the most amazing job.

I couldnt wait to stitch the binding on, and as it was part of Chookblue/Peg and Dale's Stitch-a-long where the idea initiated at after an Anni Downs workshop last year we had in Nundle. Well it was just on 12 months since the "idea" initiated, and here March was again for the annual "GDITH" meet where we could show our finsihed product.

GDITH NUNDLE 2010

We arrived at the Hall with a lovely Calico bag full of goodies for our Annie Downs project.

It was coupled with a lovely Mug so that we could keep the palette wet for all the chatting that was to be done.

Kerry and her girls had done a superb job of decorating the tables, and our morning tea was already in the centre of the table hidden inside the calico. the chairs also decorated beautifully. Well done Kerry - it looked fantastic.

It wasnt long before everyone was stitching and chatting

Everyone was really engrossed with what they were to stitch.

This is one of the lovely projects that we were to complete.

I failed miserably as only manged to have one thing sewn on, however a lot of the girls did finish and did some lovely variations which I am sure you will see on their posts.

This was all the swap items that some of us participated in which was to be an "Annie" item.

Some great work here and everyone was pleased with their goods they received.

I received a lovely Pincusion fromViv on a Cotton Reel.

It is always too hard to get everyone together for a pic, so some of us took a photo of the girls taking a picture - a great way to capture them.

Annie flitted about the tables doing some demonstations on various things.

We stayed in the local Cabins which were just lovely and as you can see in the distance there was much talking and meeting goin on.

At the end of the day it is nice to take a pic of the things I collected and purchased on the day.

QUESTIONS FOR TRIANGLE SIZES????

Can anyone help me with the formula for working out the size to cut the 1/2 and 1/4 size triangles.
ie.

* I wish to put 12.5 in squares on point for a sampler quilt
* I need the formula for how big to cut the 1/2 triangles that go on edges??
* and... also the corner 1/4 triangles.

I cannot seem to find this in my notes, and rather than guess, thought I might ask the experts - you wonderful bloggers.

After reading on Jo's blog about the Quilter;s aid USA 2010, I decided that I really liked this design and with the good market of the Ausralian dollar, decided to participate in th is Challenge.

It is a combination of both 6 Australian and 6 American designers and of which many are my favourites, so it will be nice to have the one colleciton in one quilt.

The first two I had to have was of course

Annie Downs (Hatched & Patched) & Terri Degenkolb (Whismicals)

Next was:

Kathy Schmitz (Kathy Schmitz Design Studio)

and our Lynette Anderson

So far I have managed to obtain 6 of the designers patterns, and another 6 to go.

Being so busy with all the Chrissy project I havent started yet, but as soon as I get my Gardener's Journal and my FIS BOM finished, then I can make a start.

I will post about the progess as I get started.

Earlier in the year, I made a Couch Companion for Kylie in our online stitching group.

One of my close mates - Suzie commented it at the time, so I made her one for Christmas also.

Gee the needle and thread have been flat out for the past few months with us all, so it is nice now we can reveal what we have been stitching.

SECRET SANTA GIFT FOR ONLINE FIS STITCING GROUP

This year I have had so much fun participating in our Online stitching group. The thing is I have only met a handful of these lovely ladies, but have managed to get to know them well via our regular updates. We had to make for one int he group. I had the pleasure of making for Suzie Q and did this adaption of Natalie Lymer's Baguette with a differnent fabric range - Martinique and adapted with her Tail Feather's design plus one other.

Once again it is nice to show that I have really been sewing and not blogging, as everyone has to be kept hidden from any clues until after Christmas.

CHRISTMAS HAS ARRIVED

I am also delighted to show you the lovely Gifts that I have received from Christine in our "Online Stitching Group".

This arrived very timely on Christmas Eve so I didnt have long to be tempted to open them as all the girls in this stitching group sew beautifully.

I must say it really is lovely having something to open on Christmas Day from a sewing buddy as only "stitchers" would understand this little reward.

These are the gorgeous gifts I received from Christine:

Firstly, these lovely "Tasmanian" made chocolate Truffles - the aroma just oozing out of the package!!!

And then, this gorgeous Table runner - sewn to perfection - love the colours Christine.

And this lovely little Bon Bon filled with some yummy Lindt Chocolate balls.
I feel very spoilt - you have done an exceptional job and I am so delighted.

CHOOKYBLUES SECRET SANTA 2010

I had written this post last week when I received the my " Chookyblue's Secret Santa gift" from CJ but have had serious computer issues. I have managed to obtain a few minutes when it was in a good mood this evening after shutting down several times, so whilst it is up and running, I will try and blog as much as I can:c

Wow did I get a shock when my Secret Santa parcel arrived. It was for the Receipient that I actually made for in last year's Secret Santa. Lovely CJ - Now was that pre-planned Chooky?? or was it a co-incidence.

I was soooo excited to receive a parcel - it is always lovely to receiving something in the mail. I cant begin to tell you how much it still blows me away how "diciplined" all the "stitching world" people are. Is great to be with so many likeminded people.

This is the gorgeous Christmas ornament that CJ has made - it looks lovely hanging on the tree - Russian Doll.

And today was the big reveal, when we could unwrap the pressies.
How excited was I to received these lovely gifts.
The candle mat is made of felt - just love this craft form.
and how practical is this quick unpick holder - CJ you must know that I can never find mine - this will be well used, and the gorgeous cover to keep it all together when not in use - thank you.

And this table topper - just superbly stitched. Thank you so much - it is so special to receive from another stitcher and is most appreciative.

I do hope you have a lovely Christmas also CJ (Catherine), as you will be able to step into Christmas Day now -in Canada, when ours is just finishing.

MORE BIRTHDAY FAT QUARTERS

I am pleased to report I am now back on line. I have had a much needed break and have been busily sewing and particuarly on this "Secret Santa" business -lots to show after the Christmas break.

FAT QUARTER CLUB/BIRTHDAY

It was my birthday on Friday, and I am in a fat quarter club, where you purchase two fat quarters for each of the group as it is their birthday.

One forgets that when it is her birthday that you are the one opening all the envelopes.
I had a big shopping bag full of envelopes and as we travelled to Brisbane, I was the passenger, so had a ball opening each of the envelopes. It was a great birthday afterall. I couldnt get over that these had all come from other wonderful stitchers that I have met through blogging. It still just blows me away as to how committed everyone is.

Nice work - and thankyou everyone for their lovely fabrics - great choice and looking forward to putting together my Black and White quilt with these gorgeous fabrics.

I participated in a Pincusion swap with Jeannet from in the Netherlands.Who would have thought that I could have had a swap partner that I knew - Chookyblue...

so off I went busily sewing thinking it was great to be making for someone I knew .

Can you belive the shock I got when I also received a parcel from Chookyblue - this co-incided with my birthday, so I thought it could have been something else,... until I received an email from her to say "Ring me now" - I then learnt that it was SHE who was my swap partner. How funny is that - I was the most surprised as whom I had made for had also made for me.

What a lovely surprise when I opened her pressie. It was this gorgeous lamb pincusion and in felt - my favourite medium. This is a pincusion that I have wanted for ages - just perfect and still "Country".

Born To Quilt

I was very happy to receive this new book from Veroique from Born to Quilt - such a beautiful book with the Mystery Quilt that she did a couple of years back as a BOM. There are a few extra projects in the book too - a lovely book. I am a big fan of hers after having discovered this wonderful artist in a "Magic Patch" magazine a few years ago when she released some gorgeous patterns for key holder.

PAPERBAG SWAP REVEALED

I am in an "online" stitching group.

We had to decorate a paperbag and send it to our "swap partner" along with:

* two fat quarters of material,

* a piece of trim and a button,

* and a little stitchery.

The above is the Decorated Paper Bag that I sent to Peg who was my swap partner -lucky me!!

Friday night was the opening and she has sent me a gorgeous Sewing Compendium, along with two of my favourite pieces of food.

In the Centre is a gorgeous stitchery she has done as a pin cushion, and she has added three beautiful handmde pins - one an owl - just love owls, laong with some scissors and a sewing fob.

How lucky am I to have had such a lovely partner. Thank yo so much Peg.

Separtely, sent to me from Tereasa was this Fabric which I needed to make for her.

This was a Challenge for me, as I really didnt know what I would put together.

so... with a bit of throught, I came up with the following3 items:

A Book cover, for quilt progressions, plans /ideas etc.

And I hope Tereasa doesn't mind, but I added some extra fabric to make it go further to make

a Mini Sewing Compendium to hold the a small rotary cutter, mat etc when you need to travel light

And a fabric booklet to hold all the different size needles that we need in the world of patchwork.

Tereasa's trip was the pink ribbon, so I used it behind an appliqued heart with a bit of padding underneath for a needle holder to keep when it is threaded and ready to go.

I did find it a challenge, but have enjoyed being in this swap.

PERFECT SEWING WEATHER

Once again, another weekend of rain - where on earth is it coming from??

Just perfect weather for sewing. I have been getting lots of done, but once again, as I am working on Pressies and one last swap I cant post yet, but in the meantime just a little filler I did this morning in between cutting, so that it donest look like that I havent been sewing.

I put this one together from a few bits of fabric I had on my sewing table. From "Whimsy" Range Tangled Threads.

You know when you see that "cute" material, you just have to have.

and have no idea what you are going to do with it.

I guess that is the beauty of long weekends we have time to fiddle.

I ended making this little pouch to keep some of my discount sewing cards in so that I can find them easy.

Oh.... and I put the labelling to the Test!!!

It works fabulously, if you dont have one already definitely worth investing into one of the little bias makers to make labels ready - very handy to just reach for a strip and cut it to require length, or fold over for a smaller one as I did below:

LABELLING MADE EASY!!!!

Yesterday I spent the day in the car so it was no stitching or reading, so I put my thinking cap on instead and was wondering how I could make up a bulk label strip, that I could use and cut when required. I thought I would share this idea with other stitchers if you havent already thought of it. I think it is nice to personalise what you make whether it is just for a date of when you made it, or if it a small gift for someone. Usually I rumage around the sewing box and fiddle with small bits of material to sew in as a label.

so.... I have come up with the following which will certaily save some time and be "easy access":

All you need is:
* 1 x Bias tape maker - the 3/4" is wider and is a nice size *
* Fusible Web - ideally one to fit the Bias maker - I used the 10mm width
* Calico or plain material that you want to use as your label material.
(*Note: you can get bias makers that dont have the fusible web feed - obviously if you had one of
these you wouldnt need the fusible web, but I find if you were going to invest in one, then the one
that has the fusible web feed handy as it sticks down when ironed in place)

Using the 3/4" maker, you will need to cut your strip of material 1.5"

Feed the plain material through the back of the bias maker and at the same time

put the fusible web sitcky side facing down and just run the iron along the bias strip.

Feed all the way to the end of the strip, then roll up until ready to use - so simple!!!

You now have your label strip ready to use when you next finish a small project.

Cut off lengh you require - remove the sticky strip

fold in half and iron, the stitck centre will hold it in place

Sew into your item with the raw edges facing in

and just hand topstitch the sides

It is now ready to write on.

I use a Micron fine 01pigma pen

Alternatively if you are sewing something that doesnt need to be tucked in the seam,

just cut a strip to the length you need,

tuck in the ends and handstitch your label onto your piece.

Let me know your thoughts and how you put labels on the smaller things . Would love to here from you.

I have been extremely naughty over the past few weeks, but it has been a tough year, so that is my excuse. Sewing keeps me sane.

I havent been a big fan of CivilWar prints, but have fallen in love with these quilts

They are from the "Clotheseline" range..

The "Cosies" on the right hand side are a novel idea for a table centre piece - perfect for the coffee table.

Now I have to track down some fabrics to suit.

OOPS!!!........and whilst I was in the shopping mode - I have accidentally

ordered TWO of each of the above.

If anyone is trying to track either of these patterns let me know/

I have spent the day catching up with our online sewing Group. Everymonth, one of our members picks a block, we we all make, from our own fabrics. My base is using Japanese fabrics and as I was two months behind, have now caught up - phew!!

GJ GARDENER'S PROGRESS

I am partcipating in the "Stitch - a - long" of Annie Down's Gardeners Journal along with many others and of which Chookyblue Peg and Dale got started. I am however, way behind. I keep getting side-tracked with adjusting the designs to "Dawnie's life". This house I reshaped to a miniature of what we used have have when we lived out in the country a few years back.

You see, I really am not not much of green thumb, but just love the "concept" of this Annie Downs pattern. I am still a few blocks behind, but am catching up. If I didnt keep "dawnifying" everything, I would be all cauthg up. Anway, there is no rush, its the reward of finishing that will be the achievement.

PAPER BAG SWAP

Our online stitching group are having a paperbag swap - the deal is that we decorate the bag to the person who is making for us, complete with chocolate to get the energy levels up, then we send two fat quaters, a stitchery, trim and a button

I have just received mine from Tereasa - now I did have something planned, but now she has thrown me - she has sent me a challenge being a "Sampler" of sewing Notions - hopefully I can master somthing oh and some nice ferror Rocher - that will deninitely help with the inspiration.

and my partner is Peg - she is making somthing for me. This is going to be very exciting. This is the bag I sent to her and I will leave it to her to show the goods.

After reading on Peg's blog about this great little her Powder Pounce for quilting, I decided to invest in my own and ordred some stencils.

The stencils are made of nylon and the powder just falls through the outline one you wipe the powder pounce over the top - easy to store too in a Folder with A4 sleeves.

Looking forward to putting these treasures into some good use.

CRAFT EXPO 2011 - SYDNEY OR MELBOURNE 2011

I am looking for some advice from some of you lovely ladies who have attended the Craft shows. Every year I mean to pre-plan, and before I know it, the show has been and gone.

Can any of you advise on the best one for Consumers??

I did go to one 10 yeras ago in Brisbane, but from what I can see, there seems to be a few different ones now??? I am a little baffled as to which ones would be the best. I

I would be keen to also know if from your own opinion if Sydney is better than Melbourne, or vice versa??
Does anyone have the dates for 2011??

I am doing some forward planning to that I book airfares early when the "cheap deals" are released. If any of you know or can give me some advice - that would be wonderful.

"Sew Busy" - Catching up on our "FIS" online stitching group

Everymonth - one of our group has to pick a block that we all do in our own colours.

We are now up to the 8th Month! As I was 3 behind, I have spent the day cutting and sewing to catch up.

I am using Japanese fabrics throughout as when we started the year, I said that I wasnt going to buy any fabric!!! Well at least I stuck to that goal for this quilt, but cant say that it worked for any other project so far....

Yes I am still behind, but it is a challenge catching up to the girls who plan their blocks to finish on time.
Always an achievement to finish however, there is no hurry, as long as we get to the finished product - eventually.
